Post 92 Kicks Off Season With 8-2 Win at Wallingford Ryan Fowler pitched five solid innings and the Cheshire offense did enough to open the Senior Legion season with a 8-2 win at Pat Wall Field Saturday night. Four hitters had multiple hits in this one led by Dave Tammaro and Kevin Jefferis, who each had a double and an RBI. Steve Howard also had two hits including a long triple, and John Kubilus had a couple of singles and an RBI. Cheshire jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. Eric Ostroski led off with a walk and stole second. Howard singled to right. Brad Runowicz forced Howard at second, knocking in Ostroski for a 1-0 lead. After a Dan Flynn walk, Tammaro delivered a RBI single to center. Flynn then scored on a wild pitch and Post 92 had the early lead. Wallingford would grab a pair of runs in the third on RBI singles from Jody Brint and Will Gabbard to narrow the lead to 3-2. Cheshire would answer in the fourth. Runowicz would draw a one out walk. Flynn hit a ball to right that was misplayed by the right fielder. With two out, Max Slade walked to load the bases. Runowicz scored on a wild pitch, Kubilus would line an RBI single the opposite way, and Jefferis roped a double past the centerfielder to score Slade and increase the lead to 6-2. They would add a couple of insurance runs in the sixth. Flynn led off with a single. Tammaro ripped a double with Flynn scoring when the catcher lost the relay throw in the lights, moving Tammaro to third. Slade would promptly single to left to score the 8th and final run. Dan Feldshon pitched a scoreless 6th and 7th for Cheshire, who will be right back at it Sunday, playing a doubleheader in East Haddam at 2:30. Kevin Jefferis and Steve Howard are slated to pitch in the twinbill.
Seniors Split, Lose to Stamford, Beat Westport The Post 92 Senior Legion Baseball Team has struggled to hit early this season. They have pitched very well and played solid defense. Playing in a tournament in South Windsor this weekend, they dropped a 4-1 decision to Stamford in the early game before riding a three run homer by John Kubilus and a walk-off single by Ryan Connolly to come from behind to beat Westport. The Seniors will play Utah on Sunday for the chance to play in the Championship game later in the day, perhaps against Stamford, weather permitting. In game 1, Cheshire could manage only 6 hits and muster only 1 run on a Kubilus sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, driving in Kevin Jefferis, who had doubled. Jefferis was on the mound and pitched 5 shutout innings before running into trouble in the 6th. Three consecutive singles loaded the bases with nobody out. One out later a walk and a hit batsman put Stamford up 2-0. Two more runs would score on a groundout and a single, increasing the lead to 4, which in Wood Bat Baseball, is a solid lead. Steven Howard had two hits for Cheshire. In Game 2, Post 92 jumped out to a quick lead in the first. Cheshire starting pitcher Dan Feldshon retired Westport in order in the top of the inning on two strikeouts and a weak grounder. In the bottom, centerfielder Eric Ostroski led off with a line single to left center. He stole second and scored on a Steve Howard single, making it 1-0. The lead was short-lived however, as Westport bunched together 4 hits to score 3 runs in the top of the second. The score would stay 3-1 until the bottom of the fourth. Brad Runowicz led off with a single. One out later he stole second. Max Slade would then drop a single into right, moving Runowicz to third. That set the stage for Kubilus' blast over the left field fence on a 1-0 fastball letter high. The 4-3 lead would stand until the sixth. Feldshon sandwiched a couple of walks around a strikeout and Coach dave Jefferis went to his bullpen for Howard to try and close it out. The first batter greeted Howard with a single to load the bases. Westport would tie the game on a wild pitch, after which Howard escaped further damage with a strikeout and a pop out to first. Howard pitched a scoreless 7th and a scoreless 8th. The Cheshire eighth started with the second hit of the game by Runowicz. He immediately stole second, but was thrown out at third on a bunt attempt by Andrew Narcisco. Slade would work a tough walk to move Narcisco into scoring position. After a pop out to short for the second out, Connolly drove a 3-1 fastball to the gap in right center, scoring Narcisco with the winning run and giving Howard the win in relief of a solid start by Feldshon. Weather permitting, Cheshire will play Utah at 1:00 Sunday. A win could very well put them in position for another shot at Stamford in the Championship game at 4:00. Times may change to accomodate the pessimistic weather forecast for tomorrow. Stay tuned to this website for any changes or updates
Seniors Even Record at 2-2 at Wallingford 10-2 Ostroski, Runowicz Lead Offense, Fowler Sharp Ryan Fowler pitched five, 2 hit innings and received great support from his offense as Cheshire improved their Zone 3 record to 2-2 with a 10-2 win at Pat Wall. Eric Ostroski went 4-5 from the leadoff spot and Brad Runowicz knocked in 4 runs including a bases clearing triple. Dan Flynn went 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Dave Tammaro also had two hits for Cheshire, who had a season high 13 hits in this one. John Kubilus (double), Andrew Narcisco and Phil Sirois had the other hits for Post 92. Next game will be Wednesday night at 5:30 at Middletown (Palmer Field)

Senior Bats Come Alive: Cheshire 9 Madison 5 Brad Runowicz went 3-4 with a double, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. Ryan Connolly and Dan Flynn each drove in 3 runs as Cheshire Post 92 took advantage of 12 walks by Madison pitching to secure a 9-5 win. Max Slade came in to pitch in the top of the fourth with the score tied 5-5 and shut down the Madison offense to pick up the win. In the first home game of the year for Cheshire (3-5 in the zone), they spotted the visitors 2 runs in the top of the first. Cheshire answered with three in the bottom on an RBI double by Runowicz and a two-run single by Connolly. Cheshire made it 5-2 in the third on RBI singles from Runowicz and Flynn. Phil Sirois started on the mound for Cheshire and after the rough start, worked his way out of jams in the second and third before Madison finally broke through again to tie the game in the fourth. A single, a double and an error scored two and Sirois gave way to Slade. Slade got a fortunate line drive double play on his first pitch before surrendering an RBI single. He got out of the jam on a short fly ball to left. Slade would then retire the next nine batters. While Slade was dazzling the Madison hitters, the Cheshire offense was coming to life again. In the fourth, Dave Tammaro led off with a walk and stole second. One out later, Runowicz singled to right however, Tammaro was gunned down at the plate on a very questionable call. With two outs, John Kubilus hit a ball to short that was misplayed with Runowicz moving to third. Kevin Jefferis walked to load the bases and Ryan Connolly walked to force in a run. Flynn would then line a 2-1 fastball to the gap in right center for a two run double to make it 9-5. That would be the final margin. Cheshire will try to make it two in a row Tuesday when it hosts Meriden at CHS at 5:30.

Senior Bats Stay Warm at Home, Howard Pitches Cheshire Past Meriden 4-2 Brad Runowicz knocked in two runs as the Cheshire Senior Legion team used an 11 hit attack to defeat Meriden 4-2 at Cheshire High School Tuesday night. Several players had multi-hit games for Cheshire as they improved the Zone 3 record to 4-5 with their second straight win in the first two home games of the year. After spotting Meriden a run in the first, Cheshire tied it up in the bottom of the frame on three consecutive singles by Dave Tammaro, Howard, and Runowicz. Meriden would take a 2-1 lead in the 3rd on a double, a single, and a sacrifice fly. Cheshire's winning rally came in the fourth. With one out Dan Flynn drew a walk. One out later Max Slade hit a line drive down the right field line for an RBI double to tie the game. Slade would move to third on a errant throw from the Meriden right fielder, who was oddly playing well into right center all night. Greg Leonetti would then deliver the game winning RBI with a line drive double into left center on a 2-0 fastball. Cheshire would pick up an insurance run in the fifth. Again it was Tammaro setting the table with a single. Howard would neatly bunt him into scoring position for Runowicz, who promptly lined a single to right to score Tammaro with the 4th Cheshire run. Howard got stronger as the game went on. He had great location with his fastball and his breaking pitch and offspeed pitch got better late in the game as he retired 12 of the last 13 batters to lock down the win. Cheshire will try to even their zone record when they host Guilford Thursday night at Cheshire High School at 5:30. They will also be home Sunday for a doubleheader vs. Westbrook at 11:00 am. Bring the family for some great baseball entertainment over the Holiday weekend.

Seniors Even Record at 5-5 With Weather-Shortened Shutout of Guilford Brad Runowicz continued his clutch hitting and Eric Ostroski scattered two hits as the Cheshire Post 92 Legion Baseball team won their third in a row, 4-0 over Guilford at Cheshire High School Thursday night. Dodging lightning bolts, the Cheshire offense continued its resurgence with an 8-hit attack in the 5 inning game. Dave Tammaro and John Kubilus both went 2-3 with a double and an RBI for the home team to lead the way. In a 0-0 game in the fifth, Cheshire batted around to score four runs. Max Slade led off the inning with an infield single. Phil Sirois sacrificed him to second. Ostroski walked and Tammaro delivered Slade with a RBI double to right center to start the scoring. One out later Runowicz drilled a single to the gap in right center, scoring Ostroski and Tammaro. Kubilus capped the scoring with his second hit of the night, an RBI single up the middle and the damage was done 4 runs on 4 hits. Ostroski did the rest for Cheshire, having his best innings in the fourth and fifth as he retired the side in order in both frames. He got into a little bit of trouble in the sixth after an error allowed the leadoff man on base. He advanced on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a fly ball to right and scored on a sacrifice fly to center. However, the lightning arrived, and after two delays and the skys darkening significantly, the game was called. Because the 6th inning was not completed, the score reverts back to the last completed inning therefor negating Guilford's run in the sixth and giving us the 4-0 final and a .500 record for Cheshire. They will continue their 7-game homestand (3-0 so far) with an 11:00 am doubleheader on Sunday vs Westbrook.

Cheshire Sweeps Westbrook for 5th Consecutive Win The Cheshire Post 92 Senior Legion team continued to hit the ball on their 7 game homestand, winning their fifth straight behind a 12 hit attack in game 1 and an 11 hit attack in game 2, sweeping Westbrook 4-3 and 5-4 on Sunday. John Kubilus was the hero in game two with a walk off double in the bottom of the 9th, scoring Brad Runowicz with the winning run. Kubilus had two doubles and a single with 3 RBI in the doubleheader. Max Slade came in to pitch the eighth and ninth innings, retiring all 6 batters for his 2nd win of the year out of the bullpen. Slade also had 4 hits in game 2 and 5 hits for the day. In game 1, Cheshire jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a 2 run double by Kubilus. Westbrook tied the game in the 3rd on a walk and two singles. The rally could have been worse if not for a diving play by second baseman Andrew Narsisco going up the middle. Kubilus made a great stretch at first to nip the runner. Cheshire went back in front in the bottom of the frame on a Dave Tammaro single, an error, and a Dan Flynn single. In the 5th, Tammaro doubled and Runowicz singled him in to make it 4-2. Westbrook narrowed the gap with a single run in the 6th when they put two walks and a single together. Kevin Jefferis induced a groundout to end the threat. Jefferis would get help from his defense in the 7th. After surrendering a leadoff single, catcher Tammaro picked the runner off first after a failed bunt attempt. After another single put a runner on base, Jefferis gave up his third hit of the inning, however right fielder Runowicz threw a strike to third to nail the runner for the second out. The last out came on a ground out to 3rd, sealing the win. Jefferis scattered seven hits and three walks. It was a gutsy performance as he admitted to not having his good stuff, but worked his way out of jams to pick up the win. In the nightcap, Cheshire scored single runs in the 1st,3rd,4th,and 6th while Westbrook scored all 4 of their runs in the 4th. In the first, Flynn singled in Ostroski, who had walked. In the third, Slade scored on an error committed by the second baseman on a ball hit by Runowicz. Tammaro singled in Narcisco who had singled to lead off the 4th. Narcisco also started the 6th inning rally with a leadoff walk. Eric Ostroski bunted him over to 2nd and Slade delivered him with a single. It stayed tied at 4 until the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Greg Leonetti ripped a double down the third base line. He then stole third when the pitcher paid no attention to him. Runowicz then hit a hard ball to 2nd, but Leonetti was gunned down at the plate. Runowicz then stole second setting the stage for Kubilus, who got the green light on 3-0 and ripped a shot down the third baseline for the game winning double and a Cheshire sweep. Cheshire will try to keep up the winning streak Monday when they host Middletown at 5:30 at Cheshire High school.

Six In a Row, Cheshire 3 Middletown 2 Eric Ostroski lined a two run single in the second inning to give Cheshire a 3-1 lead and the combination of Phil Sirois and Max Slade made it stand up as Cheshire moved to 8-5 in Zone 3. Facing Middletown ace Steve Landell for the second time this season, Cheshire took advantage of four errors (three in the 2nd inning) and were able to win despite getting only one hit in the game. Earlier this year, Landell shut out the Post 92 offense 5-0 in Middletown. Tonite, Landell who will play ball at the University of Rhode Island, got no support from his defense and was unhappy with the balls and strike calls all night. Showing his displeasure openly did not sit well with the Cheshire hitters, who put together much better at bats than the previous outing. Sirois macthed zeros with the Middletown lefthander through the sixth. Sirois walked the lead off man in the seventh and Coach Dave Jefferis called on Slade to close. As he has done each time he has been called on, Slade put the game away, striking out the first batter he faced before walking the #9 hitter. No problem. He induced a ground ball to second and a ground ball to first to finish it up. The win is Cheshire's 6th in a row, all at home and pulls them to within 2 games of first place in the zone. The second inning rally started with two outs as Steven Howard hit a line shot right at the center fielder. The ball went off of his glove as he tried to style a bit. Dan Flynn then hit a ball with some spin at the second baseman, who booted it, moving Howard into scoring position. Kevin Jefferis then drew a walk, fouling off a number of pitches to load the bases. That brought up the pitcher, Sirois. He hit a ball to short that was misplayed scoring Howard and keeping the bases loaded. Ostroski worked Landell to a full count, and with the runners going, lined the single to right, scoring Flynn and Jefferis, who got a great break from second on the hard hit single.. Cheshire will try to keep the streak going when they host Meriden on Thursday night at CHS 5:30

Meriden Outlasts Cheshire in 10, 4-2 Steven Howard threw 9 innings of 3 hit ball and Eric Ostroski lined a double to deep center to score the tying run in the seventh, but Post 92 could not hold on, dropping a 10 inning affair to Meriden 4-2. The loss was the first at home for Cheshire and snapped a 6-game winning streak. Meriden kept Cheshire off the board most of the night even though they had plenty of base runners(9 LOB). Derek Drag and Sam Cook combined to limit Cheshire to a single run in the third and the tying run in the seventh. In the third, Brian O'Reilly led off with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. He moved to third on a Dave Tammaro ground out and scored on the second passed ball of the inning. The game tying rally in the 7th began when pinch hitter Matt Jefferis worked a one out walk. Phil Sirois would come in to run for Jefferis. The next hitter, Ostroski, drilled a 1-1 fastball to the deepest part of the ballpark, scoring the speedy Sirois with the tying run. The rally would die there and we were off to extra innings. Meriden's runs in the 10th came on two hits, a walk, an error and a sacrifice fly. Cheshire will have to bounce back quickly as they will travel to Madison for a 5:30 start on Friday. Ostroski is due to take the ball Friday to try and start a new winning streak for Post 92.

Cheshire Drops 2nd Straight, Madison 4 Cheshire 2 Madison scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th, erasing a 1-0 Cheshire lead en route to a 4-2 win at Daniel Hand High School Friday night. Stu Munro had a long triple and Jack Callaghan had a two run single to provide the margin of victory. Cheshire would get one back in the top of the sixth but could not get another big hit in the inning, stranding the potential tying runs. Cheshire stranded 9 runners for the second straight night. They jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second. With two out and nobody on, Dan Flynn lined a double to left center. Three consecutive walks to Andrew Narcisco, Brian O'Reilly, and Eric Ostroski forced in the run. Down 4-1 in the 6th, Cheshire again got some runners on base. John Kubilus led off with a line single up the middle. Steven Howard then blooped one over the first baseman for a single, moving Kubilus to second. Flynn would then single to left center to drive in Kubilus. Narcisco would then sacrifice the runners to 2nd and 3rd with one out. However, with the tying run in scoring position, a flyout and groundout ended the rally. Cheshire went quietly in the 7th after a Dave Tammaro single. Cheshire is now 8-7 in the zone. They will play the rubber game in the Meriden series at Legion Field Saturday at Noon.

| Seniors Split. Drop to Berlin, Beat Westbrook Max Slade and Dan Flynn had three hits each as Cheshire Post 92 snapped a 5 game losing streak with a 7-6 win over Westbrook at Cheshire High Sunday afternoon. Slade also came out of his normal closer role to start this game on the mound. With 7 games in 5 days, Post 92 had to go to Slade as the starting staff had exhausted their innings. Cheshire jumped out to a 7-0 lead in this one. In the 2nd, Steve Howard led off with a walk. One out later, Slade singled Howard to 3rd then stole second. Flynn then lined an RBI single up the middle to score Howard and move Slade to third. Brian O'Reilly would then lift a sacrifice fly to right to score Slade. In the third, John Kubilus drew a one out walk. Howard then reached on an error by the shortstop. Kevin Jefferis (2-4) would rip a RBI double. After Slade reached on an error, Flynn put one over the drawn in infield, scoring Howard to make it 4-0. Cheshire would add to the lead in the 5th. With one out, Slade singled sharply to center. Flynn then singled down the third base line. Both runners advanced on a passed ball. O'Reilly lined a run scoring single, Eric Ostroski ripped an RBI double and Dave Tammaro(2-3) launched a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0. Cheshire would have to hold on tight in this one as Westbrook scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the inning and single runs in the 6th and 7th. Ostroski finished up the 6th and 7th for his first save. In the day's first game, Berlin's Joe Balowski held Cheshire to one run and two hits. The only Cheshire run came in the fifth. With two outs, Dan Flynn drew a walk. Max Slade was hit by a pitch. Kevin Jefferis then singled to right to score Flynn. Berlin scored 1 in the 1st, 2 in the 4th, and 1 in the sixth. | Cheshire Bats Coming Around, Just in Time? With 4 games left in the Senior Legion Zone 3 schedule, Post 92 of Cheshire finds themselves in a playoff chase. Cheshire defeated Guilford Monday night to even their record at 10-10. With four games left, they would have to win at least three to nab a postseason spot. In what many experts believe is the toughest zone in the state, Cheshire has been a team of streaks. After starting the season 2-5, they reeled off 6 straight to move to 8-5. Since that point, a five game losing streak put their backs to the wall. Showing the toughness that has followed this group through a very successful high School season, and even back to their Fall Baseball Championship run last year, this group has found their way to two straight wins. They have done it in the way they have become to be known.....their bats. Monday night in Guilford, Cheshire used a 13 hit attack to beat Guilford 10-3. With eight different players knocking in a run, they showed what they are capable of when everyone shows up to hit. Kevin Jefferis, who we normally read about for his pitching accomplishments, led the offensive attack with 3 hits and an RBI. Dave Tammaro, who had been peppering the ball lately but finding opponents gloves all over the field, finally found some grass tonight going 2-3 with an RBI and a couple of stolen bases. Steve Howard snapped out of a mid season bad luck streak by lining two rocket singles and driving in a run. Howard also worked the mound in this one, going the distance allowing only three runs on four hits. The Cheshire defense was loose again tonight, committing a number of errors, but Howard was able to minimize the damage and get the big out as he got stronger as the game went on. After a one out single by Dennis McGinley in the third, Howard did not give up another hit the rest of the way. Cheshire jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first. Walks to Eric Ostroski, Dave Tammaro and John Kubilus loaded the bases with one out. Dan Flynn hit a deep drive to center for a sacrifice fly for the first run. Jefferis would then line a single to left scoring the second run, with a third run scoring when the ball went under the left fielder's glove. The fourth run scored when Steve Howard hit a ball that was misplayed by the shortstop. Cheshire scored another in the 3rd on a Howard single, two in the fifth with the big hit being a Tyler Robertson single through a drawn in infield with the bases loaded. Cheshire will host Wallingford Thursday at 5:30 |

Tough Loss Puts Post 92 Backs at Wall Madison's Senior Legion Baseball team had won 8 games in a row going into tonight's game vs Cheshire at Daniel Hand High school. Cheshire showed up, needing to win two of it's remaining three games to qualify for the playoffs. After a rough first two innings, Cheshire drew first blood in the third. Kevin Jefferis reached on an error by the catcher. One out later, Eric Ostroski would reach when the shortstop mishandled his grounder. Dave Tammaro walked to load the bases and Brad Runowicz drew a walk to force in a run. John Kubilus was the next hitter. After falling behind two strikes, Kubilus knw he had to get the ball in play with the infield playing back. He calmly choked up on the bat and hit a ground ball wide of third. The only play was at first and Ostroski came in with the second run of the inning. Madison would take the lead in the bottom of the frame on a three run home run by Stu Munro. Cheshire would answer. Dan Flynn led off the fourth with a single. Max Slade sacrificed him to second. Flynn would score when Andrew Narcisco beat out a potential double play ball. Madison would score the eventual game winning run on a double, a wild pitch and an error on the first and third play
