Windsor Lockes Downs Cheshire 7-4
Cheshire spotted Windsor Lockes a 5-0 lead at Rotary Field
Saturday night, then mounted a comeback that ultimately fell
short, losing 7-4 in the first round of the American Legion State
Tournament.  Cheshire will play Sunday at around 12:30 to stay
alive in the double-elimination event.  They will play the loser of
the Milford-Norwalk game being played as we went to press.
With Windsor Lockes up 5-0, Post 92 answered in the 5th.  Matt
Jefferis opened up the frame with a double.  With one out, Mike
Gargiulo was hit by a pitch.  Tyler Robertson then lined an RBI
double to score Jefferis.  David Wright followed with a two run
single, narrowing the lead to 5-3.  With Wright running, Max Slade
hit a ground ball into the vacated hole at shortstop for a perfectly
executed hit and run to put runners at the corners.  Dave
Tammaro then drove a sacrifice fly to center field to knock in the
4th Cheshire run.  Tammaro was safe when the centerfielder
dropped the ball.  The inning ended  with the score 5-4.  Ryan
Fowler came in to replace starter Kevin Jefferis to try and hold
down the Windsor Lockes offense but the Rams could not put
together any offense the rest of the way.  Matt Jefferis, Tyler
Robertson and David Wright each had two hits for Cheshire
(17-8).
