Junior Legion Baseball Update
ups and downs this year. Under first
year Head Coach Chad Macek, one
thing is for sure....despite the win loss
record, playing in one of the toughest
zones in the state...these boys are
better baseball players now than they
were two months ago! The future of
Cheshire baseball is very
bright..Cheshire Herald Story

Gutsy Performance leads Cheshire Past
Middletown
The stage was set on Wednesday at Palmer Field. The
8-8 Post 92 squad from Cheshire came in looking to
sweep the three game series vs Middletown (9-8). Kevin
Ryan pitched in and out of trouble in a game in which
Cheshire led 1-0 going to the fourth as Ryan scored on a
sacrifice fly by Eric Bukowski in the first. Then Post 92
broke out. After back to back singles by Steve Howard
and Eric Bukowski led off the fourth, Dan Flynn laid down
Pete Lupi then lined a two run single to give Ryan some
breathing room. Cheshire would score three more times
with key hits by Kevin Jefferis (7 game hitting streak) and
Max Slade. The Middletown bats would come alive late in
the game but Ryan induced a 6-4-3 double play to get out
of trouble in the sixth and got another key double play to
secure the win in the seventh. The win moves Cheshire
to 9-8 going into the key stretch of the season with 5
games and the continuation of a suspended game in the
next four days. They will be home on Thursday Night
against Westbrook before heading down the shore for the
weekend for two more with Westbrook and two Sunday
at Guilford
Post 92 Splits with Meriden
Cheshire Post 92 Senior Legion Baseball Team to a 6-0
win in the first of two at Legion Field in Meriden. An eight
run fourth lifted Meriden to a 8-4 win in the nightcap as
the Post 92 offense could not come up with a matching
big inning. In game one Kevin Ryan led the offense with 2
hits and two runs scored, two RBI, and two stolen bases.
Dan Flynn, Eric Bukowski and Ryan Dupont chipped in
with a double and an RBI each. Jefferis added a hit and
an RBI, extending his hitting streak to six games. Jefferis
struck out five and walked one in yet another tidy pitching
performance. The second game started out promising as
Cheshire jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two, however the
floodgates opened on starting pitcher Mike Hathaway in
the third. The inning started with a walk. After a popout
to the catcher, a hit batsman and a walk loaded the
bases. A double, another walk and a costly error put
Meriden up 5-3. Two more hits ensued and when the
dust cleared Cheshire was down 8-3. After getting one
back in the 5th, a line drive double play quieted a rally in
the 6th when Cheshire got the first two on with
back-to-back singles by Bukowski and Flynn. Max Slade
was 3-4, Flynn 2-3, and Dupont 2-4 in the loss, which
halted Cheshire's win streak at 4 games.
Ryan Pitches Post 92 to .500 Mark 1-0
Kevin Ryan struck out five and scattered three hits as Post
92 won their third game in a row and raised the record to
7-7 with a 1-0 win over Wallingford at Cheshire. The home
team pushed a run across in the fourth on a Eric Bukowski
single, a Dan Flynn sacrifice bunt, and a clutch 2 out single
by Kevin Jefferis. Ryan did the rest allowing only one ball
to get out of the infield in a tidy 70 pitch performance.
Jefferis Pitches Post 92 to Within a Game of .500
Kevin Jefferis struck out 5 and didn't walk a batter
as the Post 92 Senior Legion Team moved to 6-7
on the year. The offense was led by Dan Flynn with
two hits, two RBI and a run. Eric Bukowski and
Jefferis had the other RBI's for Cheshire. Post 92
and try to continue their fine play. They will need 6
more wins to qualify for playoffs
Cheshire 4 Meriden 0
Kevin Ryan threw a shutout and Kevin Jefferis
came up with a big two-run single as the young
moved one step closer to the .500 mark with a 4-0
win at home against Meriden. Ryan Dupont and
Max Slade had two hits each for Cheshire. Slade
knocked in the other two runs. Dan Flynn and Pete
Lupi also contributed with a hit a piece. Cheshire
will face Wallingford tonight at home. Last week
Wallingford eeked out a 7-6 win against Post 92 at
Wallingford in an intense 10-inning contest so
revenge mat be in the cards. Jefferis will be on the
hill for Cheshire tonight.
