|
The stage was set at Cheshire
Academy Saturday. Last week,
in the Wallingford Holiday
Tournament, Hamden Regional
6th Graders took it to the
Cheshire 6th Graders. Payback
was sweet this past Saturday as
the Cheshire boys made all the
plays down the stretch and
taking the rematch 51-45. In a
battle of point guard play, Wes
Robertson led Cheshire with 14
points and teamed with several
teammates to keep Hamden
Regional's Colin Jordan to 12.
Paul Bronke made two big free
throws in the last minute
preserving the victory for
Cheshire against a Hamden
team comprised mostly of
Cheshire kids. Theseevenly
matched teams will face each
other again later in the season.

Cheshire 6th Graders Keep
Rolling
The Cheshire 6th Grade Travel
Basketball Team has extended it's
overall record to 22-3. Over the
weekend, they defeated Simsbury
52-16 and West Hartford 41-37. Both
were league games, extending
Cheshire's record to 11-0 in league
play. Against Simsbury, Cheshire
dominated from the start led by
Michael Caldwell's 8 points, Tyler
Bailey's 7 points, Mark Dietrich and
Jonathan Rizzo with 6 each. Tommy
Arisco was big on the boards pulling
down 8 rebounds. In the West
Hartford game, the Cheshire boys
really showed some heart. After a
sluggish start in which Cheshire found
themselves in a sudden 8-2 deficit, the
boys rallied to grab a one point
halftime lead. However a third quarter
offensive drought left the squad trailing
by ten points going into the fourth
quarter. Coach Dietrich decided to
turn up the intensity and asked the
boys to go to full court man to man
pressure to get back in the game, and
the boys responded, outscoring West
Hartford 22-8 in the fourth quarter for a
narrow four point victory. Cheshire
was led by Reid Duglenski's 14 points.
Matt Millea added 7 points while Wes
Robertson dished out 7 assists and
Alex Augusto pulled down 6 rebounds
in the hard fought win

The Cheshire 5th grade travel team extended its

defense. Ryan also
had 8 points 3 rebounds and 7 assists. Justin Frazier controlled the

Gunneson was the big man with 9 rebounds and 4 points.
Cheshire 35-East Haven 30

5th Grade Boys Travel Summary
Cheshire 39-Bristol 30
Cheshire made it 5 in a row with a win over Bristol.
Cheshire pulled out to a 11-0 lead and never looked
back. It was a well balanced offensive attack with
crisp passing and hot outside shooting. Andrew
Yamin (11
points) Sean Connelly (8 points) and Ryan Pierpont
(8 points) could do no wrong and were too much for
Bristol. Bristol did make it interesting pulling within 5
in the fourth quarter until 2 key defensive steals by
Robert Prast ended that threat. Owen Barnell was his
usual self playing huge under the boards (9
rebounds). Cheshire welcomed Danny Ward back
after a week off from being sick. We were very
aggressive and fearless on defense.
Waterbury 41-Cheshire 22
Cheshire faced a tough 11u Waterbury team. We
were up against kids a little older but very athletic and
strong. We kept up pace in the 1st half only down by 9
but ran out of gas in the 2nd half. Gutsy game played
by all players.

Third Graders Get Halftime Spotlight
At halftime of the Cheshire Notre Dame
Basketball Game, the crowd was treated to
the future of CHS Basketball. It was the
Red-White scrimmage of the 3rd Grade
Travel Team. It started out as a defensive
battle with both teams having scoring
chances. Adler DeMac had a couple of key
blocks to keep it close for White, who got on
the board first on a long 3 pointer by Mikey
Milea. When Derek Frione got his own
offensive rebound and put it back up and in
we had a Final Score of 3-2 for the White.

pressure packed 1-and-1, Paul Bronke
nailed two free throws with 30 seconds

secured the victory by preventing a game
tying 3 point attempt with a clutch steal.
