Cheshire Rams Fall Ball
Ostroski, Flynn, Kubilus Lead Rams  

Eric Ostroski pitched a three hit shutout
and Dan Flynn had a key two out, two run
double to carry the 18U Cheshire Reds to
an impressive 5-0 win over Guilford in the
first game of the GNHFBL season at
Bartlem Park Sunday.  Ostroski struck out
8 and walked two and received some solid
defense behind him.  Flynn made a nice
catch over his shoulder on a ball hit over
his head in left field early in the game and
Ryan by stabbing a line drive down the
third base line and by stabbing a line drive
down the third base line and promptly
doubling up the man at first.  John Kubilus
promptly doubling up the man at first.  John
Kubilus added a two run single in the sixth
to seal the game added a two run single in
the sixth to seal the game away.  Ostroski
also added a solid double down the left
field line leading off the game but was
stranded at third.  The Reds scored first
on a fielder's choice by Andrew Narcisco
in the second.  Ryan Fowler also added a
long double for the Reds.  Other hits came
from Brian O'Reilly, Tyler Robertson, and
Narsisco.  David Tammaro had a solid
game behind the plate, at one point turning
a wild pitch into an out at third as the
runner was going on the pitch and got a
little greedy in a 5-0 game.  Tammaro fired
from the backstop and Kyle Jesensky
slapped the tag on the baserunner.  The
Reds played without regulars Brad
Runowicz, Ryan Dupont, and Kevin
Jefferis.  They will next play Wednesday
at Marlborough.
Ostroski, Runowicz Homer in Win
to a 12-8 win over Tri-County
Wednesday in Marlborough.  Matt
Jefferis pitched two shutout innings to
pick up the win.  Eric Ostroski
continued to hit well with a long home
run and a single in the win.  Ryan
Dupont walked four times and Ryan
Rougeot added a double for Cheshire.  
Dave Tamarro added an RBI single and
scored three runs.  Kyle Jesensky also
had a hit and two RBI.  The Rams will
play Sunday in Manchester at 10:00 am
Ram Baseball Sweeps Guilford 7-5, 7-6

Excellent pitching, timely hitting and some solid defense led the Cheshire Ram
Fall Baseball Team to a very impressive sweep of the Guilford squad in Guilford
on Saturday.  

In an entertaining doubleheader between two of the top teams in the state,
Cheshire scored five runs in the top of the seventh to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 7-4
lead en route to a 7-5 win in the first game.  Ryan Rougeot pitched 2 2/3
outstanding innings in relief of Kevin Jefferis to pick up the win.  Eric Ostroski
pitched the seventh to pick up the save.  The Rams struck first in this one as
leadoff hitter Ostroski led off the game with a long double off the fence in left.  
Dave Tammaro followed with a long triple to right center to score Ostroski.  Ryan
Dupont then knocked in Tammaro with a sacrifice fly to center, making it 2-0
Cheshire.  Trailing 4-2 entering the tip of 7th inning in game one, Rougeot
doubled to deep right-centerfield.  Andrew Narcisco followed with a base on balls
and Kyle Jesensky placed a perfect sacrifice bunt down the 1st base line to
advance the base runners to 2nd and 3rd base with one out.  Tyler Robertson
followed with a 2-run line single down the left field line to tie the score.  With the
scored tied 4-4, the Rams were not done. Ostroski singled up the middle and
Tammaro walked to load the bases.  Ryan Dupont then lined a 2-run single to left
field to put the Rams ahead 6 to 4.  Cheshire finished their scoring on an RBI
ground out by Kevin Jefferis scoring Tammaro and advance the Ram lead to 7-4.  
In the bottom of the 7th inning Ostroski gave up one run but, Kyle Jesensky ended
dirt by Dan Flynn at 1st base to end the game.  Offensively, Ostroski finished dirt

one with 3 hits and 2 runs scored. In the nightcap

Cheshire again jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning on a Ryan
Rougeot infield single, 4 walks and 2 wild pitches.  Guilford answered with two
runs in both the bottom of 1st and 2nd innings to lead 4-2.  However, Cheshire
responded with a big 4-run, 4th inning to take a 6-4 lead that it would not
relinquish. Flynn lead off the 4th inning with a line single to centerfield.  Flynn was
running on the next pitch when John Kubilus bounced a grounder that Guilford's
3rd baseman threw wildly up the 1st base line and Flynn raced around the bases
to close Guilford's lead to 4-3.  Robertson followed with a walk and on a double
steal, Jesensky singled to left field plating Kubilus to tie the game.  Robertson
then scored on an Ostroski fielders choice grounder to 2nd base.  Ostroski came
around to score on 2 stolen bases and a wild pitch. Ryan Fowler pitched 3
outstanding innings in relief of Matt Jefferis.  Fowler gave up only one unearned
run, yielding just one hit while striking out five in his 3 innings of work.  Ostroski,
again, came in to close the game pitching a hitless, no run 7th inning in securing
his 2nd save of the day. Tammaro and Jesensky contributed 2 hits each in the
game two win.  The Rams are now 8-0 on the year.
Ram Baseball Take Four Games Over Weekend, Move to 13-1
In 18U Fall baseball action, Cheshire scored 3 runs each in  the 3rd, 5th and 6th
innings on their way to a 10-4 victory over the CT. Capitals in game 1 of a
doubleheader sweep on Saturday October 18th.  Batting highlights included Dan
Flynn (2 triples, one run scored and 1 RBI), Kevin Jefferis (double, 1 run scored and 1
RBI) and John Kubilus, Kyle Jesensky and Andrew Narcisco each contributed
run-scoring singles.  Brian O'Reilly. Eric Ostroski and David Tammaro (triple) each
added a hit in game 1. Ostroski continued his outstanding pitching picking up the win
 with six innings of work, yielding only 2 runs (one earned), allowing 6 hits, striking out
7 and walking three.

In Game 2 vs the Capitals, Kevin Jefferis (3 hits, 1 run scored, 1 RBI), Flynn (2 hits,
including a 1st inning two-run homer) and Ostroski (2 hits, including a triple, 2 runs
scored and 1 RBI) led the Ram hit parade.  Jesensky, Kubilus and Matt Jefferis (1
RBI) and Tyler Robertson (2 RBI) also contributed hits for Cheshire. Ryan Rougeot,
Ryan Fowler and Kevin Jefferis combined to pitch the Rams to the victory.  Kevin
Jefferis pitched a scoreless 7th inning to nail down the win.  

On Sunday October 19th, Cheshire won a split doubleheader; winning a 4-0 shutout
in game 1 against Clinton and then completed the weekend sweep by defeating
Tri-County 13-3.  The win  avenged Cheshire's only loss of the season, a 1-0 loss on
October 12th.

Against Clinton, the Rams jumped to a 3-0 1st inning lead behind singles by Ostroski
and Narcisco, Brad Runowicz (HBP) and two RBI groundouts.  Kevin Jefferis run
scoring single in the 3rd inning completed the scoring for Cheshire.  Kyle Jesensky
(3 no-hit innings and 4 Ks), Steven Howard (2 innings, one hit, and 1 K) and Matt
Jefferis (2 innings, one hit, 2 Ks) combined on the shutout for the Rams.

In game 2 on Sunday, Cheshire was led by Steven Howard's 3 hits and 3 RBIs,
Flynn's 2 hits (double and triple), 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs and Fowler's 2 hits
(including a long triple) and one run scored.  Ostroski and Narcisco also had hits for
the Rams. On the mound, Kevin Jefferis retired the 1st nine Tri-County hitters in order
on his way to 5 innings of strong pitching that included 5 Ks and no walks.  Howard
pitched a scoreless 6th inning finishing off a 13-3 mercy shortened game in six
innings.

The Rams will finish the regular season schedule next weekend with a Saturday
doubleheader at home against Glastonbury at 10:00 at Bartlem and will then travel
Sunday for a doubleheader with Groton in a day that will decide 1st place in the
10-team 18u GNHBL North Division.  Playoffs will be on the weekend of November
1st and 2nd.  Location to be detirmined.
Ram Fall Ball Sweep Three Over the Weekend
The Cheshire 18U Fall Baseball Team remained Saturday at Clinton and taking a single game
Sunday at Colchester.  The Rams are now 5-0 with 5 road wins to start the season.  They
will now play their next 6 games at home over the next two weekends.  On Saturday, Ryan
Fowler picked up the win in Game 1, going 4 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits with four
strikeouts as the Rams won 12-1.  Eric Ostroski had three hits including a line drive home run
that put a dent in the scoreboard in left field.  Dave Tamarro had a single, a double (18
inches from leaving the yard) and three runs scored and Kevin Jefferis had a two run single
and finished with three RBI on the game.  Kyle Jesensky pitched two shutout innings in relief
for the Rams.  In Game 2, Matt Jefferis threw 6 shutout innings, allowing only two hits with
three strikeouts, picking up the win in a 10-0 final.  Ryan Dupont broke open a 3-0 game in
the 5th with a two out, two run single.  Dupont would finish with 4 RBI for the day.  Brad
Runowicz added a single, a double, 2 RBI, and three runs scored.  Ostroski would add a
single and 3 runs scored for Cheshire.  On Sunday, the Rams took the long ride out to
Colchester for a 12 Noon start.  Eric Ostroski pitched a gem as Cheshire eventually got the
wood The Cheshire 18U Fall Baseball Team remained bats working en route to a 5-0 win.  
Ostroski was undefeated after sweeping a doubleheader dominant on the mound pitching a
complete game two-hit shutout.  He retired the last 13 batters he faced  striking out 6 and not
walking anyone.  Ryan Fowler led the way offensively with two hits and an RBI.  Ostroski
and Runowicz each had a run scoring single in this one.  John Kubilus and Matt Jefferis
each pitched in with a single and a run scored.  Kubilus also stole a couple of bases.  The
Rams have been getting great pitching and playing great defense so far this year.  
Ram Baseball Sweeps Glastonbury, Falls to Groton
Finishes Regular Season at 15-2,  Face West Haven in Playoffs Saturday

The Cheshire Rams swept a doubleheader at Glastonbury on Saturday October 25th.  The Rams won
game one in come-from-behind fashion overcoming a 3-1 deficit in the top of the 7th inning.  With one
out in Cheshire's last at-bat, Brad Runowicz doubled in the right field corner.  Steve Howard singled in
the 2nd base hole to advance Runowicz to 3rd base and Howard proceeded to steal 2nd base.  With
runners on 2nd and 3rd base, Kevin Jefferis singled sharply up the middle driving in Runowicz but
Howard was thrown out attempting to score on a laser throw from Glastonbury's centerfielder.  On the
throw to the plate Jefferis advanced to second and with 2 outs, Ryan Dupont lined a single down the
left field line scoring Jefferis to tie the score at 3. Steven Howard finishing up 2 1/3 innings of shutout
ball (6 Ks) retiring Glastonbury in the bottom of 7th inning and setting the stage for a 4-run Ram
outburst in the 8th inning.  Tyler Robertson led off the Ram 8th inning with a walk and Matt Jefferis
followed with a bunt single down the 1st base line.  Eric Ostroski then launched a long double off the
left centerfield fence to put the Rams up 5 to 3.  Dan Flynn followed with an RBI single and Howard hit
a sacrifice fly  to complete the scoring extending the Ram lead to 7-3. Kevin Jefferis finished off the
game on the mound allowing 2 unearned runs.
Game 2 was a 5-3 victory for Cheshire, although the Rams managed only 5 hits.  Runowicz and
Robertson each doubled and scored a run.  Ostroski singled and scored a run and Dave Tammaro had
a run-scoring single.  Other offensive contributions came from Kevin Jefferis (single) and Kyle
Jesensky (run scored and RBI groundout). Ostroski pitched a complete game 5-hitter (his 4th complete
game of the season), giving up only 2 earned runs.

On Sunday October 25th, in a game to determine 1st place in the GNHBL North Division, the Rams
(15-1) traveled to Groton (16-2) for a nine inning game won by Groton 6 - 4.  Groton scored four runs
in the bottom of the first inning on 2 hits, a walk and two Cheshire errors.  Kyle O'Keefe, Groton's junior
lefty, who pitches at Waterford High School in the spring, was dominating in this wood bat game.
O'Keefe hurled five no-hit, shut-out innings striking out an impressive 13 Ram batters.  Cheshire
however did have opportunities against O'Keefe, leaving the bases loaded in the 3rd inning (2 walks
and an error) and stranding runners on 2nd and 3rd base as a result of 2 walks in the 5th inning.
Doubles by Dan Flynn, Ryan Fowler and Kyle Jesensky provided Cheshire with scoring opportunities in
the 6th and 7th innings but again, the Rams failed to cash-in.  Groton added two runs in the bottom of
the 8th inning extending their lead to 6 to 0, when the Rams staged a big rally in the top of the 9th
inning.  Kevin Jefferis led off the Cheshire 9th with a single over the 3rd base bag and the Rams
followed with walks (four), a run scoring single by Ryan Dupont and a hit batter to close within 6 to 4.  
The Wildcats 3rd pitcher of the inning, Joe Smith, closed the door on the Ram rally inducing a fly ball to
center field with the bases loaded to end the game.  Overall, Cheshire stranded 13 base runners
including leaving the bases loaded in the 3rd, 7th and 9th innings. Ryan Rougeot pitched well in relief
throwing three shutout innings, allowing only one hit, one walk while striking out two.

Cheshire is the #5 seed for this weekend's 18u playoffs.  
We will play West Haven (#4) at Bartlem
Park at 2:00 pm on Saturday 11/1
. The semi-finals will be played at Ceppa Field in Meriden at 9:30
am on Sunday 11/2.  We would play the winner of Groton/CT. Blue Jays in semis.  Finals are at Ceppa
at 2:30 pm on Sunday 11/2.

Cheshire Wins 18U Baseball Championship
Beat #4 West Haven, #1 Groton, and #2 Meriden

Saturday:  Cheshire 10  West Haven 2
Cheshire jumped out to 6 - 0 lead in the top of the first inning on their
way to a 10 - 2 win against West Haven in an 18u GNHBL quarter-final
game playoff played Saturday November 1st at Bartlem Park.  Dan
Flynn's triple to deep right-field followed by a Dave Tammaro RBI line
single up the middle put the Rams up 1 - 0.  With 2 outs and one run in,
the Rams  extended the lead to 6 - 0 on run scoring doubles by Steve
Howard and Kevin Jefferis  and a bases clearing double by Andrew
Narcisco. Cheshire added to their lead in the 4th inning on singles by
Brad Runowicz and Howard and a 2 run-double by Jefferis.  After
West Haven scored 2 unearned runs in the 6th inning, Cheshire closed
out the scoring in the top of the 7th on 2 walks and a 2-run single by
Eric Ostroski.  Jefferis pitched brilliantly, going the distance, allowing
only 5 hits, walking 4 and striking out seven.  Runowicz had 3 hits and
Ostroski and Jefferis each contributed 2 hits.

Sunday Morning: Cheshire 10 Groton 5
Ceppa Field in Meriden was the site for the 18u GNHBL semi-final and
championship games on Sunday November 2nd.  Cheshire faced
Groton in their semi-final game and started strong again, jumping to a
3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning on their way to a 10 - 5 victory.  
Eric Ostroski lead off the game with an infield single and David
Tammaro followed with a double.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd base,
Brad Runowicz tripled to deep right-center field driving in the 1st two
runs of the day.  Runowicz then scored on a wild pitch.  In the 2nd
inning an Ostroski double was followed by a Dave Tammaro double to
extend the lead to 4 - 0. The Rams bats stayed on fire in the top of the
3rd inning as Kevin Jefferis singled, Kyle Jesensky reached on an
error and Ryan Fowler singled to left-field driving in two runs.  The
Rams then loaded the bases and scored their 7th run on a walk to
Runowicz.  In the bottom of the 4th inning Groton rallied with a single
and 2 walks to load the bases against Ostroski when John Tuneski
blasted a grand slam over the left field fence to close the Ram lead to 7
- 4. Cheshire responded with 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning on a
Dan Flynn single, a Runowicz walk and RBI single by Steven Howard
and a sac-fly by Ryan Dupont.  Groton tallied a single run in their half
of the 6th inning, but Cheshire finished the scoring on a Runowicz
walk, stolen base and a Dupont RBI single for the Rams final run.
Ostroski pitched a complete game, giving up 4 hits and 4 walks while
striking out nine.  Tammaro had 3 hits and Ostroski (2 hits, 2 runs), K.
Jefferis (2 hits, 1 run), Dupont (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Runowicz (1 hit, 3
runs, 3 RBI) lead the Cheshire hit attack.

Sunday Afternoon:  Cheshire 4 Meriden 1
In the championship game of the 18u Fall GNHBL, the Cheshire Rams
completed their fall season with a  4 - 1 victory over Meriden.  In a
game that exhibited outstanding pitching and solid defense the
championship game was scoreless until the 7th inning. Steve Howard
lead off the top of the 7th inning with a line-double to right-center field.  
After a pop-out, Ryan Dupont singled to left, advancing Howard to 3rd
base with one out.  With runners on 1st and 3rd base, Andrew
Narcisco bounced a grounder to 2nd base that was booted by the
Meriden 2nd baseman to score Howard.  After a fly-out to right field
and runners on 1st and 2nd base, Eric Ostroski singled to left, plating
Dupont and providing the Rams with a 2 - 0 lead.  Walks to Dan Flynn
and Dave Tammaro and two wild pitches extended the Cheshire lead
to 4 - 0. Steve Howard who had pitched six shutout innings, finished
his complete game victory yielding 2 hits, a walk and a hit batter giving
up just one run in the bottom of the 7 inning.  Howard then closed the
door, leaving Meriden with the bases loaded by inducing Meriden's
Garrett Hall to pop up to Brad Runowicz at 1st base to end the game.
Howard allowed 5 hits, one run, walking four and striking out four.  
Ostroski, Flynn, Tammaro (double), Howard (double), Jefferis and
Dupont all had hits for Cheshire.  
The Rams finished the fall
season with an 18 - 2 record, winning the 42-team, 18u
Greater New Haven Baseball League.
