Sally Leahy scored with 21/2 minutes
left in the second extra period as the

downpour in Madison.
Emily Ranando scored the first goal for
Cheshire (1-0-1), and goalie Erica
Correa made five saves. Hand was
playing its season opener.

Naugatuck on a muddy field at Bartlem Park Saturday. Sunday's game
was rained out because of the poor condition of the field. Here are
some of the highlights of Saturday's win:
Kyle Jesensky pitched 1st 3 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 2 BB
and 2 K's to get the win. Ryan Fowler pitched 3 innings giving up 1
run on 1 hit. Steven Howard gained the save pitching the 7th inning
striking out the last batter with runners on 2nd and 3rd base. The
Rams scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning. With 2 outs and the bases
empty, Dave Tammaro doubled down the left field line and scored on a
triple to deep center by Brad Runowicz. Kevin Jefferis singled through
the middle to score Runowicz. In the 5th inning the Rams scored what
ended up being the winning run. Tammaro again doubled. Runowicz
then doubled in Tammaro. Andrew Narcisco tripled and Dan Flynn had
a single for the Rams. Ryan Dupont made a diving a catch in the 1st
inning to end a Naugatuck threat, stranding runners on 1st and 3rd
base. Ram pitching yielded 7 walks and 6 hits but were able to work
out of multiple jams with Naugatuck stranding 13 base runners. Note:
Concerns are mounting over the field conditions at Bartlem Park, the
only 60 foot diamond that can be used for fall baseball in town. The
fall baseball program is extremely important to the development of
the players for the Varsity program, particularly this year as most of
the Varsity group has come together to prepare for the upcoming
season, one of the more promising groups in years at CHS. The
Bartlem field is bordering on safety concerns and need attention from
the town
