Career 52, Cheshire 41
University of Miami-bound Annesha Wilson had 18 points to lead
Career over the Rams in each of the teams' season debuts in a
SCC interdivisional game in New Haven.
Playing well for Cheshire was Emily Thomas (10 points, eight
rebounds) and Maggie Riddle (10 points). Other scorers for
Cheshire: Nora Bahgat 9, Kelly Riddle 5, Kristin Samuelson 3,
and Lauren Hague and Julia Strobel with 2 apiece.
The Lady Rams will face Hillhouse in the second of three major
tests on Friday night. Mercy will host Cheshire next Tuesday
completing an opening season stretch against quite possibly the
three best teams in the State.
Thomas, Pierce Lead Hillhouse over Rams 68-48
Adriana Thomas scored 24 and Daniesha Pierce 21 as Hillhouse shook off a rusty first quarter and defeated
Cheshire 68-48 at CHS tonight. Nora Bahgat netted 11 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked 4 shots in
the loss. This game was all about the pressure defense exhibited by the Academics guards against the
young Ram backcourt, resulting in a number of turnovers and fast break layups for Thomas. Cheshire played
hard all night and got some solid play from seniors Emily Thomas (8 pts) and Maggie Riddle (8 pts). Lauren
Hague chipped in with 8 points, including 2 first half threes to keep the game close at that point. Kelly Riddle
added 5 points, Kathleen DeVylder had 4 points and freshman Maria Blois hit a three as well as doing a good
job running the point for a good part of the game. However, the story of this game was the quick feet and
hands of Thomas. It doesn't get any easier for the Rams. After starting the season against defending
champs Career and Hillhouse, they will play at Mercy Tuesday night.
Strobel, JV Girls Win Thriller over Hillhouse 45-41
Julia Strobel poured in 17 points as the Cheshire JV Girls Basketball
Team withstood a furious comeback and held on for a 45-41 victory over
Hillhouse. Maria Blois (10) and Danielle Desmarais (9) were
instrumental in the win. The two guards played fiery defense while
getting the ball inside to Strobel in good scoring position time and time
again. When the Hillhouse defense tried to collapse on Strobel and
center Lauren DeBisschop (4 pts, 4 blocks), the guards hit the open
shots. The big plays came late. With the score tied 39-39, Lauren
DeBisschop battled her way to the weakside, grabbed the offensive
rebound from a missed layup, and dropped in a nice running hook shot
to put the Rams up 41-39. On the ensuing Hillhouse possession,
sophomore Molly Dupont came out of nowhere to steal the ball and then
fed Blois for a layup that put the game out of reach. Dupont finished with
3 points and 5 steals.

Rams Take Southington Holiday Tournament
Maggie Riddle and Nora Bahgat combined for 25 points Monday night, as Cheshire won the Southington
Holiday Tournament with a 40-27 win over the host Blue Knights. Emily Thomas pitched in with 7 points
as well as joining Riddle on the All-Tournament Team. This game was all about the Ram defense,
making it difficult for Southington to start their offense and allowing only one shot at the defensive end.
Lauren Hague chipped in with 6 points and Kelly Riddle had two in the low scoring contest. The Rams
improve to 2-5 with the win. They will travel to New Haven on Friday night and try to extract some revenge
from Hillhouse, who beat Cheshire a little over a week ago by 20. Look for a little closer game this time
around as the Rams are beginning to identify their roles and feeling more comfortable with each other.

Hague, Bahgat Lead Rams to States Cheshire sharpshooter Lauren Hague netted a career high 21 points and Nora Bahgat scored 16 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and blocked 3 shots as the Lady Rams clinched a CIAC state tournament berth and a share of the Housatonic Division title with a hard fought 53-47 win over a very good Lyman Hall team in Cheshire. The Rams had a fairly comfortable lead through the first half, combining strong rebounding and stingy defense to keep the good shooters of Lyman Hall off balance. Cheshire led 27-16 at halftime. The teams swapped baskets for most of the third period but the Lady Trojans got a couple of steals and the Rams turned the ball over a few times and with 1:26 left in the game Lyman Hall found themselves with a 45-43 lead. After an Emily Thomas (9 points, 7 rebounds) layup tied the game at 45, Lauren Hague took the ball right down the middle of the Lyman Hall defense and got fouled. Hague would make both shots (7-8 from the line on the night) to put the Rams back ahead. Cheshire's defense and foul shooting took over the game. Each Trojan missed shot resulted in a foul on Lyman Hall. Hague, Maggie Riddle, and Kelly Riddle all went 2-2 from the line down the stretch to ice the victory and the state tournament berth. Cheshire is now 6-0 in the Housatonic and can clinch the outright title with a win Tuesday when they visit Shelton (4-10). Other strong performances tonight from Kristen Samuelson ( 3 points, 3 assists, two steals and a block), Maggie and Kelly Riddle did not let those Lyman Hall shooters get good looks all night and chipped in with a combined 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals

Bahgat Scores 1000th Point But Mercy Comeback Downs Rams Senior Captain Nora Bahgat notched her 1000th point of her career and pulled to within 37 rebounds of 1000 in a heartbreaking overtime loss to Mercy High Friday night in Cheshire. The Rams played a mistake free first half, shooting it well, defending well, and kept control of the boards as they raced out to a 15 point halftime lead. Cheshire continued to play well in the 3rd quarter, matching Mercy's dynamic duo of Rachel Roberts (28 pts) and Bianca Simmons (18 pts). At the end of three, the Rams still held a 12 point lead at 48-36. Leading the way for the Rams was Bahgat (12 points 13 rebounds), Maggie Riddle (18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists) and Emily Thomas (15 points, 7 rebounds. Lauren Hague chipped in with 9 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals. However, the fourth quarter was taken over by the Tigers. Mercy's full court press caused the Rams some miscues and indecision as Simmons and Roberts began to heat up, as the Tigers went on a 20-6 run to tie the game at the end of regulation. Simmons and Roberts again took their team to a very hard fought win.

Ram Defense, Free Throws Upset Hand 57-42 Lauren Hague locked up Hand's Cary Wallach, holding her to 17 points (6 while Hague was out of the game) on 6 for 21 shooting. Nora Bahgat and Emily Thomas rebounded most of those misses and Maggie Riddle and Thomas scored 17 points each as the Rams held off a furious comeback attempt by the Tigers. A very aggressive Hand defense led to a foul-filled contest. The Rams took advantage at the line, converting 27 out of 31(90%). Bahgat finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. Thomas added 5 rebounds and 3 assists for Cheshire, who will face Hamden in the quarterfinals Saturd at 5:15 at West Haven High School. Hamden, who defeated the Rams Monday night 71-58, is the #3 seed. Cheshire is #11. The Rams got some great floor games from Kelly Riddle and Maria Blois. Riddle did an excellent job weak side rebounding off Hand missed 3-pointers, gathering 5 rebounds while dishing out 4 assists. Blois made good decisions all night, findin Thomas twice underneath resulting in Tiger fouls and converted free throws. She finished with 5 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Kristen Samuelson came off the bench to do what she does best, nailing two threes at key points in the game, halting the Hand momentum. Freshman Julia Strobel chipped in with a couple of rebounds and a steal in limited playing time. The story of this game was Hague's defense and Cheshire's rebounding. Wallach killed the Rams in their first meeting, pouring in 27. Tonight, the Ram game plan won the battle and the girls executed that plan.
